Guns and God + Top 10 Gratitudes
Writing with a Migraine, Part 5.Â
But really, I just have to find a way to laugh about these migraines. This is the 5th one in my life, and boy are we doing an intimate dance now. We're in relationship, I am listening, and it's getting funner (yup, funner) by the day. Except when it's really painful. Which is a lot of the time. But it's just one week every month, or so. And during that week I'm laughing more than I have in years. So, hey. At some point we become genuinely grateful for the gifts brought by challenges. That's where I am now.Â
What about guns and God? I dared to use the two words in the same sentence, just like we manufacture gobs of weapons to fight wars in the name of religion.
Ouch.
Orlando, Milwaukee, this city, that city. Seems like one a week. Here's a piece I wrote after the Florida shooting, called Guns and God.
It sure is complex, this human realm. Love is everywhere. Fear seems to be everywhere too.
It's tempting to fall prey to the frightening messages so thick in our culture, and then... Love opens its eyes wide in your mirror and you stop thinking with your head-brain and more with your heart-brain and... (She loses words, because r-e-a-l-l-y there are none sometimes.)
On a sweeter note, we cannot speak too much about gratitude. It's why my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving (which is, oooooh, right around the corner!).
Giving thanks feels good.Â
We never know if the breath we're taking right now will be our last. It may as well be dripping with thanks.Â
Here's a little boost from my day to yours, a list of the top 10 things in my life now:Â Top Ten Gratitudes.Â
