What are you getting your parents for Christmas — another pair of socks for your dad, a pretty vase for your mom? Maybe it’s time to honor them with a chance to tell their stories. If you’re blessed with a living parent, consider a gift that’s more meaningful than a new mug.
For many years I felt disgusted about how elders are treated in our society. With our actions, we say:
You’re no longer profitable to society. So just tuck yourself into your room, take your meds, watch TV and let’s check in later.
Really? After living, loving and giving for 80 years — we toss them aside?
Despicable.
One day I was done feeling deflated about this, and I decided to be the change I wish to see in the world instead of being upset about the problem. It was time for me to lean into light, creating a world of love over fear — in this case, by treasuring elders.
So I started writing memoirs for our precious elders whose lives deserve to be shared in words. They’re short memoirs in small book format with a gorgeous portrait included. See portrait examples here on our Leaning into Light Memoirs page.
It’s a radical honor to do this work! Here’s a holiday offer for Leaning into Light subscribers.

However you choose to honor the elders in your life, I salute you for it! You are loved. Thank you for reminding elders that they are loved, too.
What?
A short memoir written by Jessica Rios of Leaning into Light, capturing the most important stories and special memories from the person’s life — includes a beautifully illustrated portrait. Memoirs feature heartfully written stories expressing highlights of your life — focused on the people along your journey who matter most, the places of significance in your life, and your life’s purpose – what has made your life especially meaningful.
For the sake of…
Honoring your life. Your life matters much more than our society conveys. As an elder, you have given a lot in your lifetime. It is important that your life’s stories, work and meaning are captured in writing and shared.
Connecting with loved ones. Your memoir will be written in your voice. Some loved ones who read it will learn new things about you. Others will be reminded of the important lessons they learned from you and the special memories you shared during your life.
