Beautifully written. It is sad but true. I see parents (mostly mothers) in grocery stores and more often then not, the child has a phone or iPad. Missing an opportunity to learn about food and have an educational interaction.
I hear you. It's so sad. And... sigh. The companies who create and sell social media are so well aware of the huge harm being done, that they don't allow their own children to use their products. This is a huge issue of our time. We need to create an empowered collective, not a disempowered one. If parenting isn't the toughest job on the planet to do well, I don't know what is.
As the designer of the play environments at Gymboree, we had to confront the appalling misuse of phones and have teachers intervene constantly. And not just parents but nannies and grandparents who would video the children to live stream back to parents.
Yet another sigh... It is so complex. I hope KOSA passes so at least we have systemic support that protects childhood to some degree. Many parents have become actively engaged in this whole conversation. It's far from easy.
