Life sure is wringing us out. Apparently, our species needs pain to wake up, and so it is. I’ve been hitting some tough spots. You too? Today I’ll share a decision with you, and with it, an under-accessed, powerful and inexpensive form of therapy.
Pain without therapy? Ouch.
With it? Ahh…
Recently I realized that if I could only write one thing, it would be letters. Boldly loving and honest (thus, not always ‘nice’), personal, intimate… letters.
Now 10 years into sharing this newsletter, I’ve decided. From now on, it will be in the form of letters. My lifelong art. Not just occasionally, as in the past. Every time.
Why?
Relationship is the core of life, and
Letter writing is penned intimacy.
Plus, putting the ‘right’ pen on the ‘right’ paper feels so damn good. A sensual match-made-in-intimacy-heaven.
Who doesn’t want that?
Shaping the curves and lines of the
letters in artful motion, to lay your heart’s
words down for the sake of feeding
connection with someone you
care about. S-l-o-w-i-n-g down the pace
of your (if you’re ‘normal’ these days)
unhealthfully fast-paced, frantic life.
Bonus after bonus.
My soul has been drawn to study relationships since childhood. When I was 5, my mom took me to the card shop on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, I grabbed a pen and... Thousands of letters later, it’s still one of my greatest joys, and it’s cheap therapy!
Paper + pen + thoughtfulness = medicine. Even two sentences can make someone’s day.
Like this change? Awesome. I’m so glad!
Dislike it? Unsubscribe; thanks for hanging out while you did.
Your truth is the one for you to follow.
So, let’s begin. Below is this week’s gem: A Letter from your Best Friend, in two parts:
my letter, written last week

Imagine a world where we all give ourselves permission to befriend and express our truest art!
Here’s my latest Letter from My Best Friend. ✨
Dear Jessica,
I see you struggling. I see you
giving so much,
loving humanity effusively, all these years.
And even though you’re doing your best,
it still doesn't feel good enough.
And you don't understand why.
You can't understand why.
You aren't from this earth, my love.
You’re from a place without divides. ✨
And although Earth is a beautiful planet,
there is so much struggle here. You feel it all,
and sometimes it's just too much to feel.
A dream of separateness
is a very sad dream. ✨
Your heart breaks in confusion, empathizing
with the agony of your species and the
horrible impacts you create all over
the world. Your tax dollars fund atrocity.
You don't understand why women
tolerate so much… such lack of self respect,
and for your planet, for children, for elders.
None of it makes sense to you,
my sweet Jessica. ✨
And even though this voice you are hearing,
the one you're listening to now, shares
wisdom that provides some comfort,
right now you just feel down. Lost,
hopeless about your species.
It's OK. You have every right to feel
disgusted. If some part of you isn't,
frankly you aren’t paying attention.
You are a beautiful soul who feels
responsible for the collective, and
I need to tell you right now
that you're not. ✨
It's not your responsibility to
carry the grief of the world.
Good job today, walking in the sand,
reveling in the joy of your ball-fetching dog
letting those gorgeous grains of
salt-smoothed ground comfort you.
You didn't turn to sugar or other drugs.
You didn't turn to food.
You were nurtured
by the earth.
You are one of the most grateful
and loving people alive, and today
you just need to know that you
are so lovable when you are sad.
Your tears leave me speechless...
But you asked to hear my voice so I
am speaking. I am always available
to you and I've never had a thought
of anything but radical love for you.
Keep crying sweet girl,
keep dancing.
Whatever you do, you are
a star in the heart of God.
from the Light inside your womb,
Starheart ✨

Ah, your natural resting place, letters! Beautiful. A joy to read to my dear.
Absolutely beautiful letter and post. It moved me very deeply. I aspire to be this kind of friend for you. 💕
